How I Keep My Thin Hair Looking Healthy
Caitlin: I always had blond fuller hair but as I got older my hair got darker and turned into a brown color. I was not a fan of brown hair since I always grew up having blond hair so I started dying my hair to blond. I was washing my hair every day using only purple shampoo and barely conditioning my hair. You could imagine how dead and unhealthy my hair was because I was doing little to nothing trying to keep it healthy. I thought just getting a trim would be fine to keep my hair looking healthy but then my hair was just barely growing since I kept trimming it once the ends of my hair were splitting. After some time I wanted to start having healthy hair and take care of my hair like I take care of my skin and body. I stopped dying my hair during this time so I could get my healthy hair back. This is what I do and after about 4-5 months my hair looks so much better.
- Use a wid-tooth comb for wet hair
When I wake up I always brush my hair before getting into the shower because I don’t want to brush my hair when it’s wet. Instead of brushing my hair. I use a wide-tooth comb to brush out my hair when it’s damp. Using a brush with wet hair would cause frizz to my hair as the comb is more gentle on my hair. Before combing through my hair I use my absolute favorite product which is: it’s a 10 leave-in spray. I use the original one some days and other days I will use the one for blonds! I love this product and recommend it to everyone.
2. Do not wash your hair every day
I have tamed my hair so that I can just wash it twice a week. Not washing my hair every day or as often is what helped my hair because before I wasn’t getting those oils through my hair. Sometimes on the day before I am supposed to wash my hair and I am going out, I will either do a hairstyle that you won’t notice the oils in my hair or I will use a powder dry shampoo instead of the dry shampoos that spray out of a can.
3. Use a microfiber towel
If you’re someone that wants fas- drying hair and wrap it in a towel then use a microfiber towel. Using a cotton towel when drying your hair causes damage. Your hair becomes more fragile when it’s wet.
4. Be aware of harsh chemicals in your shampoo/conditioners
I have tried so many different brands of shampoo and conditioners. My favorite brands I have used are biolage, shea moisture, and ogx. A scalp scrub is something that my hair has very much enjoyed. Just a once a week exfoliation is what scalp scrubs are used for. Try your best to STAY AWAY FROM DMDM HYDANTOIN! It’s an ingredient that can cause hair loss so every time before purchasing shampoo or conditioner always be on the lookout for harsh chemicals like DMDM hydantoin and others.
5. Olaplex
Olaplex has worked miracles for my hair. It is expensive so I will only use No3 hair perfector for my hair because that was the only one I found necessary to use and since it worked so well I didn’t bother to try out all the other products. Even though it only lasted me up to 5 uses I used it once a week and that’s all my hair needed. When I stopped using the olaplex my hair didn’t go back to how it was. The olaplex had permanent results so that’s why I highly recommend it.
6. Have an overnight routine
Before going to bed I brush my hair and apply a tiny amount of shea moisture coconut oil. Then, I tie my hair back in a low loose ponytail using a scrunchie. I use specific scrunchies that are used to not damage hair. I bought a whole bag off of Amazon and they’re super comfortable to sleep with!
7. Have a good diet
Having a good diet, staying hydrated, and getting the amount of sleep you need will help you tremendously. Not even just with your hair but with your mind, skin, and health in general staying healthy is what you need most. Staying healthy also helps with stress and stress we already know what can lead to.
I am no hair care expert but these are products that I have used and became very successful with. I wanted to share the products and routines I use so maybe they could help someone else out with similar hair to mine. Remember not everyone has the same hair follicles so just because one thing works for one person doesn’t mean it will work for someone else. I always like to try my own products and try what others have recommended so that’s how I became successful with the products I have chosen.
I will earn commission for any of the products above purchased.
